I think this lady's happy because she just bought this white bamboo jumpsuit for half-off at her favorite Hamptons boutique.

Women Happily Throwing Their Arms Back
There is no shortage of these types of photos on the internet. I'm confused as to why this is the go-to pose, but I'm OK with it because they make me giggle. What is she so happy about? Or is she upset? It's hard to tell from this angle. I want to reach through the screen and ask her.

Cheers to the Weekend!
This is what happens on the weekends. Excuse the profanity. Thanks to Jenna Marbles for being insane and sharing with the world what we really do.

Madewell Skimmers
How cute are these Madewell skimmers for spring? I love the hint of a pointy toe and all the different patterns/colors!

Oui, Oui!
Forever
21 dress, Zara
short dress, Forever
21 swing dress, La
Perla lace panty, La
Perla sheer bra,
I took French for three
years in high school so I often pretend I speak it fluently. If I run into a
French person I immediately start whipping out my rusty français. For me it's
more entertaining than embarrassing. I cannot say the same for them…
As of late, the French
have made their way back into my brain. During an episode of MTV’s I Just Want My Pants Back, the lead
character was dating a klepto French gal who was a squatter. AMC’s Mad Men caused a riot with with Don
Draper’s newest wife singing “Zou Bisou Bisou,” a 1960s French hit. I foresee
the French taking over once again.
I've always admired the
French, mainly because I feel their women’s fashion has always felt effortless
yet classic. I suppose it’s a European thing in general. If I was
living in Paris, I would live in long loose flow-y dresses, sheer shirts, &
tailored trousers.
Real talk? If I lived in
Paris I would actually spend my time in a café eating baguettes, wine and
cheese all day. All day. That means I’d probably have to live in a
poncho/garbage bag.
Au revoir,
Penny
Effie Trinket Rocks the Peplum
This weekend we saw The Hunger Games and it was ah-ma-zing.
I read the first book in 2009 after it was gifted to me and I was "meh" about reading it because of the cover. If a book jacket doesn't have a picture of a woman running in heels or a pink background I'm suspicious of its content (yeah, I'm that girl). But then I became addicted. And so did everyone else.
The stuff they left out in the film wasn't important enough to make a difference to me. And the dudes were hot, so I was pretty much fine with whatever. The director/writers/etc. did a lot with the time allotted. It was totally well-done and minimal on the cheese scale.
Most importantly, did everyone notice Effie Trinket's wardrobe staple of choice? Not only did Elizabeth Banks NAIL the character, but her outfits and makeup were stellar. Peplum everywhere! Below is the only picture I can find, but it definitely popped up more than once.
It's good to know in our dystopian future all the trendy ladies will still be wearing our blog's namesake trend.

As far as Em and I are concerned, Suri's Burn Book is one of the best blogs ever. She says things everyone is thinking. I tell someone I hate them on a daily basis...with my eyes.
In a perfect life this would be Suri blogging and not some hysterical genius. That said, this illustration is from another favorite blog, But You're Like Really Pretty.
Check them both out. Laugh. Repeat.

(Re-) Work it for Spring

Spring has sprung!!
Men get to see exposed cleavage and legs once again. Taylor Swift will whip out
that curly hair. The Ryan Gosling sightings will increase exponentially.
Picnics will be arranged for Sunday Brunch… in your imagination. You will think
that annoying guy who’s been trying to take you out for months is kind of cute.
Walking in heels all the way to and from work seems like a GREAT idea.
I have a lot of
emotional issues during spring. Main one comes from looking in my closet and
deciding I want a completely new wardrobe. As Emily previously stated, “the salary of a 1940s factory worker” doesn’t really
allow me to fill that need as I’d like to. SO…Spring is all about adding key
items to your current wardrobe to bring some new life to alllllll the clothes
you’ve worn 498 times.
Take
one thing in your closet and wear it 1,000 new ways with some new items. Wish
you could throw a new hat on your asshole friend and make them cute &
adorable too... am I right?
-
Penny
P.S.
In case you’re wondering, my other issues are: deciding whether or not I should
have cut my hair 2 months prior and now not being to curl my hair appropriately
for the season, coming up with unquestionable lies explaining why I can’t make
it to brunch (I like to sleep in), refraining myself from punching random
lovey-dovey couples in the street, etc.

Miu Miu high heel sandals, Ariella Collection cat jewelry, Maria Black oxidized jewelry, Hair accessory, Band Aid Bandages 20-Count Hello Kitty Johnson Johnson
Tonight is the season premiere of Dancing with
the Stars. So many questions to be answered. Does Gavin DeGraw have a
hat-wearing clause in his contract? Will Maria Menounos and Derek Hough have a
spicy love affair? Lord knows I would never put myself through such public
humilation...OK, this is sort of dependent upon how much money I would be
making after winning the mirror ball trophy. Everybody has a price, people! So
if it were to happen, I would need a basket full of bandaids (preferably of the
age-inappropriate variety) along with something strong and alcoholic. I would
be tripping over myself in my Miu Miu sandals, but from past experience I'm
sure I would picture myself exactly like Jennifer Beals circa Flashdance. At least
I would be in the most excellent of moods as Bruno Tonioli scolded me for my
floppy footwork. I would be the first contestant to be eliminated mid-foxtrot.

Weekend Warriors
My new plant! |
The weather this weekend was ah-ma-zing! Sleeveless tops were worn and brunching was in full force. Somehow I got sucked into A Walk to Remember and sobbed hysterically watching Shane West and Mandy Moore's doomed love affair (thanks a lot, PIX11!) but besides that it was an A+ time to regroup, do mounds of laundry and drink bloody marys. Monday can suck it.

Happy Endings
We love Happy Endings. We love Happy Endings SO. MUCH. It's almost a problem. Casey Wilson (one of the show's leads) is the funniest human and I want to be her best friend. We love all the characters but we especially love Casey Wilson's Penny. Not to be confused with Penny from this blog. Penny from Happy Endings is a hot mess man chaser who loves wine and gay men. You know how everyone's like, "Oh my god, you guyz, I'm just like [insert Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, any cheeky/modern lady here]." And you're just like, "Uhhhh, no you're not." Well, I have found the person I feel is my television doppelganger. Meet Penny Hartz. Ding.

From the ages of 8 to 18 St. Patrick's Day gave me severe
anxiety. If you forgot (god forbid) and came to class without green
on, you could expect a tribe of grubby little fingers to pinch your arm fat
faster than you could say "No, you guys! My EYES are green!!"
Above are some adult-friendly St. Patty's day style suggestions.

Sticky Buns
I know this because I take a vested interest in random things and this week it’s weather. I heard Al Roker say that we only had like 10 days of snow this winter (I made that number up but I’m sure it’s mildly accurate), it’s been unseasonably warm ALL winter and therefore it will unbearably hot all summer. Which means my hair is going freak the f out.
The buns above will help me help you not have to look at me doing this:

Inspired By...Florence Welch
I've been listening to "Shake It Out" by Florence + The Machine on repeat at work today. Lots of humming and whistling too (Sorry, Penny Pens). It's so good. Which is why F.Welch is the first in our "Inspired By" series. I expect a thank you note from her camp shortly.

Fireplaces
I love fireplaces and I want one in my life stat.
I'm confident that one day I will be in my TriBeCa loft sipping Veuve as the fireplace warms my cashmere-wrapped body. I'll laugh to my fiance, Ryan Gosling. "Bwah ha ha! Oh, Ryan. Remember when my apartment was the size of this fireplace? It seems like so long ago. I can't believe I'm so young and I already made my millions, met the love of my life and have a body like Gisele."

I'm Bossy...I Mean Glossy
Lip gloss is nothing special to me. I feel like 99% of them are vastly similar EXCEPT for Chanel Glossimer, which literally makes your mouth look like a fairy unicorn princess. It's absurdly expensive ($30) but worth it, I swear. I hoarded my last one for six (SIX!!) years, but finally caved and bought a new one this weekend at Bloomingdale's. There are only so many times you can scrape the sides of a plastic tube before you lose all traces of your beautifying dignity.
